Felipe is an expert bonsai professional and instructor who has trained for four years in Europe with the famous master Mauro Stemberger and is the first South American accepted as a disciple of the renowned Japanese bonsai master, Kunio Kobayashi.

In addition to his studies in Europe and Japan, Felipe has demonstrated in China, Belgium, Poland, Germany, Italy, Spain, Colombia, Costa Rica, Peru, Uruguay, Bolivia and Brazil. 

In recent years, he has traveled Europe, Asia and Latin America, teaching the art of bonsai and providing services to private clients and international organizations.  He also teaches intensive bonsai schools in Peru, Colombia, Bolivia, Costa Rica, Uruguay and several states in Brazil.

In this 4-day event, we will guide you step by step on how to create a stunning root on rock composition. Imagine being able to craft a masterpiece like the one pictured above:

 

What You Will Need to Purchase for This Class.

NOTHING! Everything will be provided in the class fee.

NOTE: Fully enclosed N95 face mask & latex gloves are provided (optional: disposable N95 masks and goggles are available in place of the fully enclosed masks).

 

What You Will Need to Bring for This Class.

While everything for this project is provided by us there are a few things you should bring for yourself.

• A change of clothes (carving the rock can get dirty).
• Dress comfortably
• Lunch or snacks (Close by: Subway, Hungry Howie's, Burger King, Chinese food).
• A camera to record your progress.
• You might also want to bring a note pad to take notes.
• And finally, an open mind and the will to learn!

Here's What You Can Expect From This Hands-on Learning Experience

 Day 1: Introduction and Initial Design Process

• Gain a deep understanding of the types of rock compositions in bonsai.
• Learn about different types of trees that do well attached to rocks.
• Discuss the type of material we will be using to form our rock.
• After lunch, we will begin the process of preparing the blanks to create the rock.

 Day 2: Creating the rock mountain.

• We will start with a discussion of the tools used to carve the rock previously prepared.
• Mastering the art of carving the rock.
• Applying the coatings to your finished carving to create a truly realistic looking mountain.

 

Day 3: Preparing the trees.

• Choosing the juniper trees and preparing them for the composition.
• Understand the techniques for anchoring plants to the composition.
• Learn how to achieve balance, harmony, and natural-looking arrangements.

 

Day 4: Finishing your own masterpiece.

• We will learn how to make keto, which is the soil used in rock compositions.
• Inserting your prepared junipers in the stone.
• Refine your composition through careful adjustments and pruning.
• Discussion of additional elements such as mosses and accent plants.
• Receive personalized feedback and guidance from an experienced bonsai master.
